Kenzie Poindexter grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds as UVa-Wise claimed a 66-50 victory over Virginia Universty-Lynchburg at the Lynchburg City Armory on Tuesday.
UVa-Wise (2-0) built a 41-25 halftime advantage by shooting 48.1 percent from the field and limiting Lynchburg (0-4) to 36.7 percent. The Cavaliers also took advantage of the free throw line by hitting 11 of 14 attempts while the Dragons failed to reach the stripe in the first half.
Poindexter's rebounding proved to be pivotal in the second half as she claimed 11 of her 16 boards in the half. As a team, UVa-Wise out rebounded Lynchburg 27-17 in the half and 46-34 in the game.

Taylor Sandidge 10 joined Cluesman in double figure scoring for the Cavs. The Dragons were led by Sonna Sidibe who scored nine points and collected 15 rebounds. Katrea Edwards, 12, Kashera Brown, 12, and Kishia Brown 12 scored in double figures for Lynchburg.
UVa-Wise will complete its season opening three game road trip with a trip to the University of Pikeville on November 18. Tip-off is set for 7 pm inside the East Kentucky Expo Center.
