Week Seven Football Game Notes

WISE - - UVa-Wise will venture to Glenville, W.Va. on Saturday to face Glenville State College for the first time in program history.  The host Pioneers are coming off a 17-10 loss to the University of Charleston.  Charleston defeated UVa-Wise 38-15 earlier this season in Wise.  Last week, the Cavaliers dropped a 42-17 home contest to then #12 Shepherd University.  

Glenville State enters the game as the Mountain East Conference's second ranked rushing defense.  Thus far, the Pioneers are allowing 110.5 rushing yards per contest.  Overall, Glenville State ranks fourth in total-defense by allowing 292.7 yards a game.  On offense, the Pioneers are posting 346.5 yards which is boosted by its balanced attack.  On the ground, Glenville State is averaging 148.3 yards a contest while putting up 198.2 yards a game through the air.  

Individually, the Pioneers' offense is led by Rahmann Lee who is averging five yards a carry and 108.3 yards per game.  Lee has also rushed for seven touchdowns in the season's first six games.  On defense, James Johnson ranks fifth in the MEC in total tackles with 55.  Johnson has also produced two sacks from his linebacker position.

The Cavaliers' James Long will enter the contest just 280 yards from the single-season receiving yardage record at UVa-Wise.  The senior from Roanoke  Rapids, N.C. is having a career-year in his final season as a Cav.  Thus far, Long has caught 45 passes for 778 yards and five touchdowns.  He's also been crucial in the return game as he amassed 590 yards and two more touchdowns on kickoff returns.  Last week, Long's full versatility was on display as he completed a 40-yard pass to fellow wide receiver Terrence Younger.

Fellow senior Vernon Payne is having a solid season on defense.  A week ago, Payne picked off a pass and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown.  Overall, Payne has collected 24 tackles, four pass break ups, and a forced fumble.  Meanwhile, sophomore linebacker T'ontray Billups ranks fifth in the MEC in tackles for loss with nine.  On the season, Billups has totaled 46 stops and five sacks on the season.
