CAVALETTES TAKE THIRD PLACE TROPHY IN SEVEN WAY TOURNEY

EMORY, Va. -- The Cavalettes, CVC's girls volleyball team, have earned a third place trophy in regional tournament play held at Emory and Henry College recently.

Seven area college teams made up the double elimination tournament. They were: Virginia Intermont, Sullins, King, Emory and Henry, Tusculum, Clinch Valley, and Milligan.

In their first round, CVC played Milligan beating them two games (15-12 and 16-14) out of three to win the match. Outstanding players for the match were: Diane Ratliff, 9 points, and Susan Lawson, 8 points.

CVC lost the second round to Virginia Intermont College.

In the third round CVC beat Sullins College 15-7 and 15-2 in two straight games. Again Susan Lawson rallied the team with her serves worth 11 points in the two games. CVC's fourth round was played against Milligan with CVC winning two out of three games to take the match, 15-13, and 17-15. High pointers for the match were: Shirley Baker, 11 points; Penny Bolling, 13 points.

To determine the finalists, CVC played Virginia Intermont again. CVC lost the match to VI by scores of 16-14 and 15-6. CVC received the third place trophy and VI played against Emory and Henry in the finals. Emory & Henry took first place and VI finished second.
