A native of Woodbridge, Virginia (Woodbridge H.S.), Hernandez led the Cavs on the softball field in the month of April. The starting second baseman earned All-MEC Second Team accolades for the second time in her career and was named to the MEC All-Tournament Team after leading UVa-Wise at the plate in the Cavs’ MEC tournament run to the consolation bracket finals.
 
At the MEC tournament in Troutville, Virginia, Hernandez hit .444 and went 8-for-18 at the plate, scoring six times and recording three RBI to help UVa-Wise to a 3-2 record over the weekend. With UVa-Wise’s only losses coming against eventual tournament champion and 24th-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan, Hernandez’s weekend was highlighted by a 4-for-5 performance in the Cavs’ win against top-seeded MEC North division Shepherd University where she scored three times, made two extra-base hits and tallied two RBI.
 
For the month of April, Hernandez held a .373 batting average, .458 slugging percentage and .441 on base percentage. Hernandez tallied a team-leading 31 hits, 17 RBI and seven doubles, while collecting 55 putouts and assisting on 34 others. The senior ended her career in a Cavalier uniform leading the team with a .326 batting average for the year. This season, Hernandez posted a team-high seven stolen bases, six sacrifice bunts and 57 hits. Her 10 fielded double plays led UVa-Wise and was third-most in the MEC.
