The University of Virginia's College at Wise Athletics

Evan Sturgill is in his third year at UVA Wise and his first as the Director of Golf. A Pound, Va. native, Sturgill was a four-year letter winner for the Cavaliers where he aided the team to the 2010 UVA Wise Invitational Championship.

“I am excited to elevate Evan Sturgill to Director of Golf, he is extremely driven and passionate about leading our golf program and the growth of UVA Wise Athletics,” remarked Director of Athletics Kendall Rainey after Sturgill's promotion. “Coach Sturgill has a strong vision for the Highland Cavalier golf program and I look forward to great things to come.”

Sturgill graduated from UVA Wise with a degree in business administration and, since graduation has owned/operated several businesses, most notably Evan Sturgill Photography.

 

The new coach works for Lonesome Pine Country Club and R.H. Sturgill Construction, in addition to his position at UVA Wise.

 

Sturgill and his wife Haley have a son, Nixon.
