Bio
Josh Newland returns to UVA Wise for his third year with the program after redshirting as a freshman in the 2021-22 season. Newland, a Manassas, Va. native, appeared in 6 games for the Cavs. He made his debut with UVA Wise against Pfeiffer Nov. 15, 2022 scoring 4 points and snagging 3 rebounds in just 6 minutes of action. Newland also scored 4 points against SAC foe Mars Hill on Feb. 1, 2023. Newland works very hard in a reserve role for the Cavs. He pushes all of his teammates in practice and plays with aggression, never shying away from a shot and forcing good defense from his defender.
Newland spent his high school days at Osbourn High School in his hometown of Manassas. For his efforts in 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons, he was twice named an honorable mention for Cedar Run All-District Team.
His favorite athlete is former Boston Celtics forward Paul Pierce, as Newland grew up a Celtics fan.
Newland's favorite thing to do outside of basketball is go to the movies.
He is a son to his mom, Nancy, and his dad, Ernie. He's a brother to his sister, Nikki, and his brother, Jes.
