Jake Hatch comes to UVA Wise as a freshman with winning in his blood after winning the Alabama Class 7A State Championship at Hoover High School last year. A versatile 6-foot 10-inch wing, Hatch models his game after his favorite athlete, Kevin Durant.

"I feel that I'm kind of like him because he was also skinny and slim in college but he pushed and made it to the NBA. I also want to style my game like his."

Hatch chose to join the Cavs because the campus had a "homey" feel the entire time during his visit. He also cited the team's success in their run to the SAC Tournament title game last year and the team's great chemistry as contributing factors in his decision.

The Accounting major is an excellent student beyond basketball. In high school, Hatch was a member of both the Business Honor Society and Junionr Honor Society.

He has continued his family's college basketball tradition, as his dad, Brian, played at the University of South Alabama (1987-91) and his grandfather also played Division I basketball.

Hatch is the only child to his aforementioned dad, Brian, and his mom, Shannon.
