Burnside's 34 Points Power UVA Wise Past Limestone, 78-66

GAFFNEY, SC – It was a case of "When the Sable Goes Marching In" as UVA Wise senior Sable Burnside exploded for 34 points, including 16 in the fourth quarter, and twelve rebounds to lead the Highland Cavaliers to the 78-66 win over the Limestone Saints in a South Atlantic Conference game Wednesday evening.

It is the Cavs' second straight win over Limestone and their first-ever win in Gaffney.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP
Result: UVA Wise 78, Limestone 66
Records: UVA Wise (7-7, 4-6 South Atlantic Conference); Limestone (6-8, 2-8 SAC)
Location: Gaffney, SC | Timken Center

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Limestone picked up the quick 5-0 lead, only to see UVA Wise battle back and eventually take a 10-8 lead on a three-pointer by Ella Karst. The two teams then traded leads over the next few minutes until back to back baskets by Burnside late in the quarter gave the Cavs the 17-13 lead at the end of the period.
- Neither team led by more than four points in the second period as the lead switched sides several times. Once again, UVA Wise scored late, this time on a three-pointer by Caroline Mullins, to grab the four point lead at the half.
- Katlin Burger got the basket and the free throw to start the third quarter, putting the Cavs ahead 36-29. Limestone would hang around and cut the score to 39-38 with 6:43 left in the third before a basket by Burnside sparked a 12-3 run to put the lead into double digits. The Saints cut the lead to 55-47 going into the final frame.
- Limestone kept up the run, cutting the lead back to 56-54 with 6:43 remaining in the game. On the next possession, Sable Burnside went on a run, scoring the next twelve Cavalier points to once again put the team ahead by double figures. A late Limestone run cut the lead to seven but a basket by Madison Looney shut the door on the Saints as UVA Wise went on to march off with the 78-66 win.
- Three Saints scored in double figures, led by Kalisha Hill's 18 points. Reagan Kargo added in 11 points and Graycie Poe scored ten. Hill and Dior Shelton led the Saints with eight rebounds apiece.

GETTING WISE

She becomes the first Highland Cavalier to pass the 30 point plateau since Caitlyn Ross' 47 point outing at Tusculum on Feb. 28, 2024.
- Caroline Mullins added in 12 points and a game high three steals, while Jalie Ruehling led all players with six assists.
