WISE – Anderson grabbed the lead over UVA Wise in the second quarter and held off the Cavs' comeback efforts in the 93-79 South Atlantic Conference win over UVA Wise Saturday evening on the Quillen Court.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After AU took a three-point lead, the Cavs went on a run of their own to lead 12-5 following a
Makenzie Bremer layup. Five points by Burnside would later push the lead to nine points with 1:46 left in the quarter. Both teams scored down the stretch and UVA Wise led 24-17 after one quarter.
- The Trojans methodically chipped away at the lead, cutting it to one on several occasions before taking a 32-30 lead with 2:30 left in the half. Burnside tied the score at 32-32, only for the Trojans to go on a 12-0 run that extended into the third quarter.
- Anderson turned up the full-court pressure in the third quarter, forcing several turnovers that stymied the Cavaliers' comeback efforts. They were able to chip away at the lead, with an
Alissa Cheek three-pointer and a basket by
Caroline Mullins cutting the lead to 57-51 with 2:31 left in the third frame. The Trojans, however, would go on a 9-2 run to close out the quarter.
- The run extended into the fourth quarter, with AU building the lead to 21 points and eventually leading by 26 points before the Cavs made a late run to cut it to 14 with
Emilea Preece scoring five points during the run. AU went on the claim the 93-79 win.
- Diamond McDowell led AU with 24 points and eleven rebounds to go along with eight assists. Rose Gravel scored 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds, while Ashlyn Sheridan added in 15 points and Zamiya Passmore had a double double with 12 points and eleven assists.

Sable Burnside led the Cavs with 22 points in addition to six rebounds and three assists.

Caroline Mullins scored 17 points, while
Alissa Cheek had eleven points.

Ella Karst led the team with six assists.
- Anderson outshot the Cavs from the field 53.9%-43.8% and led in rebounding by a 47-36 margin. UVA Wise forced the Trojans into 22 turnovers and had sixteen of their own.
