SALISBURY, NC – The UVA Wise softball team made their final road trip of the regular season and outscored the Catawba College Catawba Indians 8-5 for the afternoon as they split the season South Atlantic Conference series Saturday afternoon at Whitley Field.

GAME ONE:
- Kary Hales put Catawba on the board with a sacrifice fly that scored Grace Flynn in the first inning. They tacked on another run in the second on another sacrifice fly that scored Courtnee Carter.
- The Highland Cavaliers scored in the third when
Brie Frazier reached home on a wild pitch. They then tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the sixth when
Sarah Barrett scored on a RBI single to left field by
Abagail Mills.
- With runners on first and second in the bottom of the sixth, a RBI single by Carter and a sacrifice fly from Aniyah King scored two runs for Catawba.
- The Catawba defense then held the Cavs to only one hit in the seventh to claim the win.
GAME TWO:
- UVA Wise grabbed the lead in the top of the first and never trailed in the 6-1 win.

Adyson Gibson was brought home from second as
Hannah Bruce singled to left center with two outs to claim the lead.
- Catawba tied the lead as Grace Flynn scored on a single up the middle by Riley Tucker.
- A pair of errors helped Gibson and Frazier cross the plate in the fifth to give the Cavs the 4-2 lead.
- UVA Wise added three more insurance runs in the top of the seventh as Gibson,
Kara Long, and Barrett all scored.

Alivia Nolley picked up the complete game win as she allowed only one run off of eight Catawba hits and struck out one batter.
GETTING WISE:
- Barrett had a good day at the plate as she led the team with four hits, two runs, and an RBI.
- Gibson added in three hits and three runs on the day.
UP NEXT
UVA Wise returns home to host Mars Hill in the regular season finale next Saturday. It will be Senior Day and the UVA Wise seniors will be honored that afternoon. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Cavalier Field in Wise.
