ALLISON HEADLINES AT THE PLATE AND IN THE CIRCLE IN DOUBLE HEADER SPLIT

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – For the second day in a row, the UVA Wise softball team (2-2, 0-0 SAC) split its multi-opponent double header against the Virginia Union University Panthers (0-4, 0-0 CIAA) and the University of Mount Olive Trojans (6-0, 0-0 Conference Carolinas).

Game 1: Cavs defeat Panthers, 9-1

Virginia Union opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning after junior outfielder Alaysia Miller scored on a wild pitch to take a 1-0 lead.

The Cavs completely stifled the Panther scoring after that. In the second inning, junior Abagail Mills worked a one-out walk. Then, behind in an 0-2 count, senior outfielder Brie Frazier smoked a triple to right center, scoring Mills.

Frazier would be brought home one pitch later as junior catcher Emma McCauley reached on an error, giving the Cavs a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish.

The lead grew in the fifth inning thanks to a two-run home run from sophomore pitcher Bayleigh Allison, her first of the season.

Allison also dazzled in the circle for the Cavs. She earned her first win of the year with a complete game on the mound. Allison conceded just four hits and one unearned run while striking out four batters and only walking one.

Game 2: Trojans defeat Cavs, 28-0

The Cavs were knocked down in the opening inning against the Trojans and struggled to get up off the mat moving forward.

Mount Olive knocked in 20 runs in the first inning while adding a single run in the third inning and seven runs in the fourth inning.

Mount Olive went 4-0 against the Cavs and Panthers on the weekend, outsourcing its opponents by an average of 13.3 runs per game.

The Cavs remain on the road for their next two games with a Feb. 8 double header at King University. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. in game one and 3 p.m. in game two.
