WISE – The UVA Wise women's basketball team is seeking to keep up their winning ways as they travel to Concord Wednesday evening and host King Saturday afternoon.
The team is currently 2-0 on the season, which is the best start since the 2022-23 season and ties for the second best of the Coach
Jamie Cluesman era. The last time the Cavs started a season 3-0 was the 2013-14 season and the last time they started 4-0 was in the 2005-06 season.
GETTING WISE
- SAC Player of the Week
Sable Burnside leads the team in scoring and rebounding as she is averaging 22.5 points and 11.5 rebounds a game. She is also averaging 3.0 blocks a game.

Katlin Burger is averaging 17.0 points a game, while
Makenzie Bremer is averaging 12.5 ppg.

Caroline Mullins is second on the team in rebounding (6.0 rpg) and leads the team in assists.
- The team is outshooting their opponents 48.7 percent to 36.7 percent and are outscoring the opposition 73.0-68.5 points a game.
ABOUT CONCORD
- The Mountain Lions are 0-2 after losing at Lock Haven 84-67 and to Seton Hill 120-77 over the weekend.
- They are being outscored by the opposition 102.0-72.0 and out-shot 54.6 percent to 35.9 percent.
- Abbie Smith leads the Mountain Lions in scoring with her 15.5 points per game average. Madison Young (9.0 ppg) and Kennedy Scales (8.5 ppg) are also among the scoring leaders.
- Smith also leads the team in rebounds (7.5 rpg), while Skylar Davidson leads in assists (4.0 apg).
- The Highland Cavaliers lead the all-time series with the Mountain Lions 10-8 and have won three of the last four.
ABOUT KING
- This longtime rivalry is renewed on the Quillen Court as the Tornado are currently 1-1 on the season after losing to Limestone 63-48 and beating LMU 68-54 over the weekend in a SAC/Conference Carolinas Crossover Tournament at Limestone. They will play at Emory & Henry Wednesday before making the trip to Wise Saturday.
- The Tornado lead the all-time series 44-24, dating back to the 1975 season. The two teams were Tennessee-Virginia Athletic Conference/Appalachian Athletic Conference rivals for many years before not playing for a few years when UVA Wise and King joined the NCAA Division II years apart and in separate conferences.
- Mariyah Williams (14.0 ppg) and Sarah Thompson (12.0 ppg) lead the team in scoring, while Ashley Allen (12.0 rpg) leads in rebounds.
- Opponents are narrowly leading the Tornado in scoring (58.5-58.0 ppg), while King is ahead in shooting by a 38.3%-35.5% margin.
