Storylines – Tusculum

Ranked No. 10 in the latest D2SIDA Southeast Region Poll, Tusculum enters the home stretch of the season with its eyes on an NCAA Tournament bid. Most recently, the Pioneers held Emory & Henry to 18 second-half points en route to a 57-52 win. One of the best rebounding teams in NCAA Division II, Meagan Price's team leads the league by out rebounding opponents by 17.2 rebounds per contest. Jaymi Belton is the league's top rebounder at 13.8 rebounds per game while teammate Mya Belton is fourth in the conference at 8.5 rebounds per game. Belton is also making a league-high 2.7 triples per game while leading the league in blocks too at 2.3 per contest. Tusculum has lost consecutive games at the Prior Center, including an 80-72 setback to conclude the 2021 regular season that prevented the Pioneers from winning the regular season league crown.

About UVA WisE

Jamie Cluesman's team will be hosting its annual Play4Kay Game Wednesday. Fans can visit www.uvawisecavs.com to donate to the team's free throw challenge to help raise money for cancer research. On the floor, Anna Whited made her first collegiate start Saturday and sparked UVA Wise to an early lead. Despite Whited's career-best nine points, the Cavaliers fell at Newberry 77-63. The Wolves outscored the visitors 21-to-5 in the third quarter as Newberry shot 54.9 percent from the floor in handing UVA Wise its fifth consecutive defeat. Senior guard Caitlyn Ross can continue to make history this week. The Kingston, Tenn. native is five assists shy of 600 for her career. When she reaches the mark, Ross will become the sixth woman in South Atlantic Conference history to reach the mark. Fellow guard Nia Vanzant is approaching another milestone also. The school's NCAA Division II era program scoring leader has 1,461 points and is 39 points shy of becoming the first Cavalier to reach 1,500 career points since Lauren Carr amassed 1,648 during the school's days as an NAIA member. The game with the Pioneers will start a season-ending stretch of playing mostly at home. UVA Wise will play four of its final six games inside the Prior Center.
