CAVS RUN BY WASPS, COMPLETE SEASON SWEEP

EMORY - - UVA Wise placed five players in double-figure scoring as the Cavaliers completed a season-series sweep of local rival Emory & Henry with a 78-67 win at King Hall Wednesday.

UVA Wise (14-13, 5-11 SAC) outscored E&H (7-16, 4-11 SAC) 29-to-10 in the second quarter to take control of the contest and never look back.

JosIe Hester made a trio of 3-pointers in the period as the sophomore tied for game-high scoring honors with 16.

The guard finished the game with a career-high five made triples as the Cavaliers made eight long-range shots in the game to tie a season-high for the squad.

Hester's big night was part of an ultimate team effort for Jamie Cluesman's club. Anna Whited netted a career-high 10 points while Nia Vanzant crossed the 1,500 point plateau for her career with a 15-point outing.

Katlin Burger made 6-of-8 field goal attempts en route to 12 points while Kaitlin Bailey scored 11 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked a pair of shots.

Point guard Caitlyn Ross also played well by scoring eight points, corralling six rebounds and dishing out six assists to go along with three steals.

The Wasps made just 35.9 percent of their shots in the game, including an 11-for-41 showing in the second half.

UVA Wise won the battle of the boards 42-to-37  and shot 47.5 percent from the floor for the game.

E&H was led by Breanna Yarber's 16 points but, the forward was held to 5-of-15 shooting. The Wasps did make 10 long-range shots in the contest but were outscored 39-to-25 in bench points.

The Cavs will return to the floor Saturday for a non-conference game against Bluefield State. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. from the Prior Center.
