CAVS LOOK FOR SEASON SWEEP OF WASPS WEDNESDAY

Storylines – Emory & Henry

Emory & Henry will look to stop a four-game losing skid and score its first win over UVA Wise in nearly four decades Wednesday. The Wasps are 2-11 over their last 13 games and a big reason why has been the team's inability to score. Emory & Henry is averaging 61.6 points per game against league foes while shooting 38.6 percent from the floor, 30.4 percent from the 3-point line and averaging 19.4 turnovers per game. Local product Breanna Yarber has been the team's top offensive player by shooting 50.9 percent from the floor and averaging 12.8 points per game to lead the Wasps in both categories. In the team's first meeting against UVA Wise, Yarber was held to five points on 1-of-7 shooting but, teammate Brylee Jones kept her team in the game with 21 points and seven rebounds before fouling out in the final minute. The 21 points were a season-high for Jones who has scored in double figures nine times this season. Emory & Henry is much better at home where the team is 5-6 compared to a 2-8 mark on the road.

About UVA WisE

UVA Wise will look to halt a seven-game losing skid and complete a season-series sweep of local rival Emory & Henry Wednesday. The second half has been costly for the Cavaliers during the losing skid and that was the case again Saturday in a 87-73 defeat to Wingate. Jamie Cluesman's team led 21-17 after a quarter of play and trailed by only eight at intermission before suffering the setback. The Bulldogs hammered the glass, winning the battle of the boards 39-to-19 as no Cavalier had more than four rebounds in the contest. Senior Caitlyn Ross posted a double-double in the loss with 20 points and 12 assists while Katlin Burger came off the bench to score 17 points and Nia Vanzant scored the 1,490 point of her career with a 14-point outing. Ross now leads all of NCAA Division II with 197 assists while her 615 assists in her career are the most of any active NCAA Division II player. The senior enters the game with Emory & Henry 14 assists shy of tying former Tusculum great Jasmine Gunn for fifth in league history with 629 assists. In the first meeting against the Wasps, Vanzant scored 21 points and registered seven steals in a victory. UVA Wise won the game despite shooting 26.8 percent from the floor thanks to 24 Emory & Henry turnovers that turned into 24 points.
