THE NOTES TO KNOW

• UVA Wise and Bluefield State are meeting for the 21st time. The Big Blues hold the all-time series lead 11-to-9 however, Bluefield State's last win in the series came in the 2000-2001 season. The Cavs have won six straight in the series.

• With 23 points Saturday, Caitlyn Ross moved to 14th all-time in school history with 1,310 points. The guard can move past Makenzie Cluesman for 13th in school history with 10 points.

• Freshman Sarah Burton had a breakout performance against Wingate Saturday. The guard played all 40 minutes, tallying a season-high 23 points behind a 4-for-8 showing from beyond the arc.

• UVA Wise has out rebounded each of its first three opponents. The Cavs enter Monday's game +14 per game on the glass.

• Behind Ross' six assists per game, UVA Wise leads the SAC in assists per game at 18 per contest.

• The free throw line has been kind to the Cavs early in the year. UVA Wise is making 79 percent of its attempts as a team thanks to a 14-for-15 showing at the stripe Saturday.

• A year ago, Katlin Burger recorded her career-high with 28 points in UVA Wise's 69-58 win at Bluefield State. It was part of a double-double performance for the forward who also grabbed 10 rebounds.

• Bluefield State's Azariah Binford has been one of the best defensive players in the country. Binford ranks second in NCAA Division II at 4.7 per game.

• Monday's game starts a string of four straight on the road for Bluefield State. The Blues are 7-29 over their last 36 away games dating back to the 2020-2021 campaign.
