NOTES TO KNOW
• UVA Wise is 2-2 in South Atlantic Conference openers since joining the league. The team won its league opener 82-75 at Coker last season.
• Fifth-year Caitlyn Ross enters the game with 1,287 points, one shy of tying former Cavalier Kayla Carey for 15th in school history in scoring.
• UVA Wise's streak of winning its home opener will be put to the test against nationally ranked Wingate. The Cavs have won nine straight home openers and are undefeated in home openers under Jamie Cluesman.
• Ross earned Preseason Second-Team All-SAC accolades after leading the league and NCAA Division II in assists per game (7.6) last season.
• UVA Wise is 1-5 in season openers over the last six seasons. The lone win came last year, 72-65 (OT) over Clayton State.
• The Cavs are averaging a league-best 16 assists per game thus far. The strong passing has also led to success getting to the foul line where UVA Wise has made 35 free throws in two regular season contests.
• Wingate leads NCAA Division II in 3-point field goal percentage making a blistering 50 percent. Guard Hannah Clark's 14 made triples are the most of any player in the SAC.
• Wingate enters the game ranked No. 23 in the latest WBCA Poll. UVA Wise has defeated a ranked opponent at home in three of the last four seasons.
• Wingate has made back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances and was picked third in the Preseason SAC Coaches' Poll.
• The Bulldogs enter Saturday's game on a two-game losing skid. Ann Hancock's team has not lost three straight since the start of the 2020-21 campaign. That losing streak included a 92-82 setback to UVA Wise.
