WISE - - Saturday's South Atlantic Conference game between Catawba and UVA Wise was a game of runs and it was the visitors from Catawba who put together the final run to claim a 77-63 win inside the Prior Center.
Catawba (13-3, 7-1 SAC) placed a quartet of players in double figures to remain atop the league standings. Jada Porter led the way with a 9-of-13 shooting performance en route to 22 points while Janiya Downs added 16 points, Lyrik Thorne chipped in 14 and Sara McIntosh tallied 14 as the Indians claimed their fourth consecutive victory.
UVA Wise (11-6, 3-4 SAC) trailed by as many as 19 points in the second quarter as Catawba put together a 19-to-0 scoring spurt to take a 39-20 advantage.
The Cavaliers closed the opening half on a 12-to-2 spurt of their own to trim the deficit to 41-32 at intermission.
UVA Wise would continue trimming the lead in the third quarter and would have it whittled down to three points going to the fourth quarter as Alexis Warren scored off of one of Caitlyn Ross' game-high eight assists.
Josie Hester would tie the game two minutes into the final quarter with a pair of charity shots at 59 all.
The Indians would then put together the game's final run by outscoring the Cavs 18-to-4 over the remainder of the game to secure the victory.
Catawba forced 25 turnovers and converted the extra possessions into 23 points. The Indians made nine triples in the game, including four from Porter and three from Downs as the visitors avenged a loss inside the Prior Center last season.
Nia Vanzant led UVA Wise with 17 points with Hester adding 14 while Ross and Katlin Burger chipped n 12 each. Kaitlin Bailey posted a career-high 12 rebounds in the defeat.
