MEN'S TENNIS HONORS SENIORS, BUT FALL TO QUEENS IN FINALE

HARROGATE, TENN — The UVA Wise men's tennis team celebrated their two seniors, Coleton Burke and Luke Jarnagin, but lost their last conference match of the season to the No. 21-ranked Royals of Queens (UC) by a score of 7-0.

Dominic Hoffman and senior Luke Jarnagin led off doubles play for the Cavs (6-18, 0-12 SAC) in the No. 1 spot and snagged a game, but fell 6-1 to the duo of Yoan Roussinov and Euan Lynes of the Royals (11-4, 10-1 SAC).

In the second doubles matchup, Queens' Berk Enc and Jan Malmon completed the sweep and took down senior Coleton Burke and John Robert Kilgore in a 6-0 win.

In singles play, The Royals completed five sweeps of the Cavs.

In the No. 2 spot, Queens' Roussinov claimed two 6-0 wins against Burke, marking his final singles face-off of his Cavalier career.

A member of the Highland Cavalier squad since 2017, the fifth-year senior tabbed three singles wins on the year — vs. Brevard, Maryville, and Virginia State.

The Bristol, Va. native also grabbed six doubles wins on the year against Roanoke, Brevard, Maryville, Shawnee State, Coker, and Virginia State.

Jarnagin was placed in the No. 3 face-off, and also fell 6-0, 6-0 to Malmon of the Royals.

Jarnagin, a Rogersville, Tenn. native and a Cavalier since 2018, finished his 2021-22 season with five singles wins (against Roanoke, Brevard, Maryville, Shawnee State, and Virginia State).

In doubles play, the senior produced five wins (against Roanoke, Brevard, Maryville, Shawnee State, and Virginia State).

In the last three matchups on the day, Kilgore, Galenski, and Selvakumar all fell to their Queens opponents. Galenksi put up a tough fight against Aidan Davy at flight one, but fell 6-3.

The men's tennis team ended their regular season with a 6-18 overall record.
