WISE, VA — UVA Wise fell to Queens University of Charlotte in two heartbreaking late-game rallies from the Royals by scores of 3-2 and 10-7 on Wednesday, April 13.
PLAY-BY-PLAY SUMMARY
GAME 1:
An Ashlyn Mickler single up the middle in the second inning for the Royals brought in the first run of the day, giving Queens the leg-up.
UVA Wise didn't respond until the fifth inning when Emma McCauley smacked a single and Jenna McDermott walked to get a Cav in scoring position. Sarah Barrett mustered up an RBI single to bring McCauley home to tie the game at 1 before Queens retired the side.
When a three-up, three down inning from the Cavaliers held the Royals at bay, McKenna Falwell roped a solo home run in the top of the sixth to give the Cavs the lead.
The lead lasted for an inning until Queens' Kaylee DeJesus responded with a homer of her own to lock in a 2-2 score and force the game to extras.
The Royals held the Cavs from scoring before a sacrifice bunt and a fielder's choice ball allowed the Royals to win in 3-2 walkoff fashion.

GAME 2:
UVA Wise scored first in game two with a Mallory McKnight RBI double to snag a 1-0 lead. Mady Buchanan added to the scoreboard with a two-run RBI single to put the Cavs at a 3-0 advantage.
The Cavaliers made headway and had their eyes on a game two win as McDermott snagged two RBIs and a home run in the next three innings to aid her squad in a 6-2 lead. After Haley Hmeil hit a dinger for Queens to keep the Cavaliers on their toes, A fielding flub by the Royals in the next inning allowed another UVA Wise run to score.
In the bottom of the sixth, momentum poured towards the Royals as Haley Nelson drilled a grand slam to left to tie the game at 7.
Khristen McPherson in the circle for the Royals silenced the Cavs in the top of the seventh, giving her team the last chance to score. Queens' Jordan Hunt was up for the task, hitting a three-run homer to push Queens to a 10-7 victory.
