SALSIBURY, N.C. - - UVA Wise sophomore Mallory Trimble tied a school record with seven caused turnovers but it would not be enough as her squad dropped a South Atlantic Conference lacrosse contest 12-6 at Catawba Sunday.
CLOSE FIRST
Catawba scored the first two goals of the game as Gracie Hubbard and Ella McCusker each scored off of a Mercedez Boucicaut assist before UVA Wise tied the game with goals from Trimble and Grace Golatt.
The Indians would score the next two goals as Caroline Falcone netted consecutive unassisted goals before Sydney Trask cut the lead to one at 4-3 with a goal at the 4:13 mark of the opening period. Boucicaut would give her club a two-goal lead after the opening 15 minutes when she scored an unassisted goal.
INDIANS TAKE CONTROL
Catawba took control of the game by outscoring UVA Wise 4-0 in the second period. During the stanza, Boucicaut scored twice while Hubbard and McCusker also found the back of the net.
CAVS FIGHT BACK
UVA Wise would win the third period 2-to-1 as Traks and Golatt would each score an unassisted goal but the early deficit would prove to be too much to overcome as the Cavs netted just one fourth quarter goal in suffering the 12-6 defeat.
BOX SCORE NOTES
Boucicaut led all players with six points, four of which came from goals. Senior Erin Smith continued her strong groundball work for UVA Wise as she scooped a game-high eight groundballs.
Indians' goalie Aryn Dorr collected 20 saves while allowing just five goals in the win as the visitors outshot the hosts 38-to-21.
The seven caused turnovers by Trimble tie a record previously held by Hannah Marshall who established the mark in a game against Lees-McRae in 2017.
