EMORY, Va. - - Emory & Henry scored a doubleheader softball sweep of UVA Wise Sunday. The Wasps won a 14-11 slugfest in the opener before claiming a 10-2 run-rule win in the finale.

GAME BY GAME

GAME ONE

UVA WISE GETS EARLY LEAD

The Cavs plated a trio of runs in their first trip to the plate. Mallory McKnight doubled home Kaylee Jones and Jenna McDemortt before Alex Miles singled in McKnight.

WASPS LEAD

Lydia Taylor singled home Mackenzie Williams in the home first before E&H plated four in the second to take the lead. In the second, Emily Scaggs belted a solo homer before the Wasps took a 5-3 lead when a dropped fly ball allowed three runs to score.

CAVS GO BACK ON TOP

UVA Wise regained the lead with a four-run fourth inning when McKnight knocked in Kara Long and Miles lined a three-run homer to put her squad up 7-5.

SWAPPING THE LEAD

E&H did not trail for long as the hosts scored four times in the home fourth inning. Morgan Silvis doubled home two and Kendall Varner singled home a pair to make it a 9-7 contest.

ADDING ON

The Wasps scored twice in the fifth inning as Anna Thomas and Scaggs both had RBI singles to give the hosts an 11-7 lead.

BUCHANAN TIES IT

With two outs in the sixth and her team down four, Mady Buchanan belted a grand slam over the center field wall to tie the game.

EMORY WINS IT

A three-run sixth would provide the Wasps with the winning 14-11 score. Haley Mince doubled in two and Thomas doubled in a run as part of the thee-run frame.

BOX SCORE NOTES

UVA Wise lined 13 hits in the loss, McKnight led the way with a 4-for-5 game while Miles and Buchanan each had four RBI. E&H took advantage of nine walks by Cav pitchers and registered five extra-base hits.

GAME TWO

UVA WISE SCORES FIRST

A run-scoring single from Long put the Cavs in front 1-0 before the Wasps could come to bat.

SCORING EARLY

E&H scored four times in the first inning, two of the runs came on a two-run blast off the bat of Varner.

CUTTING THE LEAD

Michaela Barney doubled home Buchanan in the second to cut the hosts' lead to 4-2.

PUTTING IT OUT OF REACH

The Wasps would score the last six runs of the game as Mince belted a two-run homer, Thomas tripled in a run and Dacey Jenkins plated two on a RBI single; the sixth run scored when E&H scored a run when a runner from third came home when another runner was thrown out attempting to steal second.

BOX SCORE NOTES

 Barney was the only Cav to finish with multiple hits in the game, she finished 2-for-3 in the game. E&H lined 12 hits as Williams and Mince each had three hits.
