Mellinger's squad got a sweet taste of victory in their South Atlantic Conference battle against the Mars Hill Lions on Wednesday, taking the win by a score of 84-79. Three freshman rookies on the Cavs led the way, with Joel Pettiford and Makai Vassell dropping 21 points each and Kervens Yacinthe valiantly sinking three shots from the charity stripe to ensure a Cavalier triumph.

In Anderson and UVA Wise's last meeting, UVA Wise dropped a 52.3-percent from the field but couldn't overcome Anderson's 66.7-percent in the field and fell by nine points.
