WISE - - Sixth-year senior Kalee Johnson's final performance inside the Prior Center will be a memorable one as the forward netted 23 points, grabbed 17 rebounds, dished out four assists and registered five steals in UVA Wise's 75-59 South Atlantic Conference basketball victory over Catawba.
HOT FROM THE JUMP
UVA Wise was hot from the field from the game's opening tip. The Cavaliers used a 10-to-3 scoring spurt to take a 14-7 lead in the opening quarter and never look back. Catawba was limited to just 3-of-15 shooting in the first 10 minutes as Johnson netted eight of her game-high 23 points in the stretch.
PULLING AWAY
The middle 20 minutes of the game belonged entirely to Jamie Cluesman's squad. UVA Wise would outscore Catawba 43-to-24 over the second and third quarters behind a sold shooting effort. The Cavs would make 16-of-25 field goal attempts over the stretch, including a 10-for-11 showing in the third quarter to put the Indians away.
BOX SCORE NUGGETS
Junior Nia Vanzant did not miss a field goal attempt in the win. Vanzant was a perfect 8-for-8 from the floor as she scored 19 points while adding eight rebounds. Freshman Katlin Burger continued her strong play for UVA Wise as she scored 12 points; junior Caitlin Ross handed out a game-high nine assists in the triumph.
The Cavs won the game despite 34 turnovers by holding the Indians to 25.8 percent shooting for the game.
