Storylines – vs Mars Hill
De'Ja Marshall comes to Wise as Mars Hill's leading scorer, rebounder and team leader in assists. The graduate student is averaging 15.7, 8.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. In a 77-70 loss to UVA Wise earlier this year, Marshall was limited to just eight points on 3-o-f9 shooting while not haivng an assist. Teammate Zanah Boyd was a throrn in the Cavaliers' side that evening. Boyd scored 24 points thanks to a 10-for-11 showing at the free throw line while adding 10 rebounds and three steals. The senior forward has not played since Jan. 8 and the Lions have been outscored by 159 points in the five games since. When Mars Hill has found success this season the charity stripe has been a big reason why. The Lions have shot the fourth most foul shots in the SAC with 338 while having made 222 of the attempts.
UVA Wise scored a key 71-55 win over Limestone last time out and are in the thick of the SAC Tournament race. Junior Nia Vanzant scored the 1,000th point of her career as part of a 24-point, 13-rebound outing. Teammate Kalee Johnson added a career-high 20 rebounds as the Cavaliers scored their first ever victory over the Saints. With the win, Jamie Cluesman's crew moved to a three-way tie for seventh place in the conference standings. A win over Mars Hill would keep the push to make the postseason going in the right direction. In the first meeting between the two schools this season, Vanzant netted 27 points on 11-of-16 shooting while playing all 40 minutes. For her career, Vanzant is averaging 17.6 points per game while having posted a trio of 20+ point outings in five meetings against the Lions.
