CAVS TANGLE WITH NATIONALLY RANKED GOLDEN EAGLES ON NEW YEAR'S EVE

Head Coach Tianni Kelly's No. 18 Golden Eagles enter Saturday on a five-game winning streak. Charleston's backcourt has spurred the early season success as graduate student Trinity Palacio is averaging a team-best 15.5 points per game while senior guard Dakota Reeves has been one of the best 3-point shooters in the nation; Reeves is connecting on 48.6 percent of her long range shots this winter hand has already made 35 triples. Reeves' 3-point shooting percentage ranks 17th in NCAA Division II while her 3.2 made triples per game is sixth best nationally. The Golden Eagles are in the midst of a four-game road trip. Charleston's two defeats this season have come on the road, including a 78-71 loss at Fairmont State when the team was limited to 6-of-20 shooting from distance.

UVA Wise will attempt to beat a ranked opponent at home for the third consecutive season when the University of Charleston visits the Prior Center Saturday. Jamie Cluesman's team is off to an 8-3 start and is a perfect 4-0 in Wise. Senior guard Caitlyn Ross recently made history as she became just the third woman in program history to reach 500 career assists. The Kingston, Tenn. native currently has 508 assists, sitting 22 behind the program's all-time leader Amber Carter. Several Cavaliers had career days in the team's recent trip to Puerto Rico. Sophomore forward Alexis Warren made all six of her field goal attempts en route to a career-high 15 points in the team's 81-45 victory over Universidad del Sagrado Corazon. Fellow sophomore Sable Burnside also had a big day in the win as she recorded her first collegiate double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds while junior Erin Egerbrecht swished a career-best four 3-pointers in the blowout win. As a team, UVA Wise continues to be among the best in the country in sharing the basketball. The Cavs are averaging 18.6 assists per game to rank sixth in NCAA Division II.
