BAILEY'S CAREER-NIGHT SENDS CAVS TO VICTORY AT SNAKE FARM

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - - Sophomore Kaitlin Bailey netted a career-high 20 points to lead UVA Wise to an 82-75 South Atlantic Conference victory over Coker at the Snake Farm Wednesday.

UVA Wise (5-1, 1-0 SAC) used the sophomore duo of Katlin Burger and Josie Hester to break away down the stretch. Following a Coker (3-2, 0-1 SAC) miss, Cavaliers' Head Coach Jamie Cluesman called for a timeout with 2:53 to play and the score tied at 71.

On the ensuing possession, Burger would get the ball on the low block and score to put the visitors up a pair. The Cobras would be unable to get a shot off on their next possession as a shot clock violation turned the ball back over to the Cavs.

Hester would drill a 3-pointer from the corner to extend the UVA Wise to lead to 76-71 off a Caitlyn Ross pass.

Coker would score the next four points to get the score to 76-75 before a bucket by Burger extended the advantage back to three. Bailey would come up with a steal on the next Cobras possession before Ross put the game away at the charity stripe by going 4-for-4 in the final minute to secure the win.

UVA Wise led by double digits on multiple occasions but, Coker battled back behind the play of Valicia Demeritte and kept her team within reach. The senior scored a team-high 18 points while dishing out three assists, blocking two shots and registering two steals in 25 minutes of work.

Dasia Lambert finished with 12 points to join Demeritte in double-figure scoring in defeat.

Bailey scored 14 of her career-best 20 in the first half while adding six rebounds and three assists to her stat line. Nia Vanzant made 7-of-9 field goal attempts en route to 18 points while Ross netted 14 with Burger and Hester adding 12 each to round out five women in double figures for the victors.

The 82 points scored by the Cavs are the most allowed by the Cobras this season as was the 51.8 percent shooting by Cluesman's crew.

Coker enjoyed a 43-to-31 advantage on the glass but UVA Wise offset the rebounding margin with a 20-for-22 showing at the foul line.

As a team, the Cavs dished out 19 assists, nine coming from Ross. The team also swatted away five shots, including a career-best three from Hester.

Next up, UVA Wise plays Winston-Salem State Monday inside the Prior Center at 5:30 p.m.
