Storylines – King
For the third consecutive game, King will play a South Atlantic Conference foe. Head Coach Michael Phelps will hope the third time is the charm as his Tornado dropped a 66-54 decision to Limestone and a 60-53 contest to Lincoln Memorial on opening weekend. Putting the ball in the basket was an issue for King last week, the Tornado made just 29.5 percent of their field goal attempts, including a 25 percent showing from the 3-point line. Brianna Dunbar is the team's leading scorer in the early going averaging 14.5 points per game. On the interior, Ashley Allen has been the team's top threat. Allen is averaging eight points and 10.5 rebounds per game. This will be the first meeting between the two programs since 2019 and King's third all-time trip to the Prior Center. The Tornado are 2-1 at the Prior Center and have won 11 of the last 12 meetings overall.
About UVA WISE
UVA Wise is 2-0 for the first time since 2015 after picking up a pair of wins on opening weekend. The UVA Wise backcourt spurred the early season wins as
Nia Vanzant (23) and
Caitlyn Ross (22) combined for 45 points in a 72-65 overtime win over Clayton State before Vanzant (18) and
Josie Hester (16) combined for 34 points in a 66-57 win over Flagler. The 16 points by Hester marked a career-high for the sophomore who has made a team-best five 3-pointers through the season's first two games. Fellow sophomore
Katlin Burger saw her first action of the season against Flagler and netted 10 points while grabbing six rebounds in the win.
Jamie Cluesman's crew has used a total team effort when crashing the glass. Seven different Cavaliers are averaging at least six rebounds per game, led by
Sable Burnside who has corralled 18 rebounds in two games. Wednesday's game is the final in a season-opening three-game homestand for UVA Wise. With a win, the Cavs can improve to 20-8 inside the Prior Center over the last three seasons.
