WISE - - Lauren Flowers scored a game-high 27 points as visiting Lincoln Memorial overcame a 16-point deficit to defeat UVA Wise 67-59 in South Atlantic Conference basketball action at the Prior Center Wednesday.
HOW IT BEGAN
UVA Wise got off to a fast start as the Cavaliers drained a quartet of 3-pointers in the opening half. When the first half horn sounded, the hosts led 34-25 and Jamie Cluesman's team had led by as many as 16 points in the opening 20 minutes. Kalee Johnson scored 11 of her team-best 16 points in the half while Mackenzie King sank two of her four 3-pointers to propel the home squad to the halftime advantage.
THE COMEBACK
The third quarter belong to the Railsplitters as the visitors made 11-of-15 field goal attempts including 5-of-7 triples to outscore the Cavs 27-to-11 in the period. Flowers netted eight points in the stretch as she was a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor. LMU took its first lead with 5:36 to play in the third quarter when Irelynn Davisson's 3-pointer gave her squad a 40-37 lead. The visitors would never trail again.
THE FINALE
LMU would push its lead to 10 when a Davisson 3-pointer made it a 55-45 affair with 8:07 to play. UVA Wise would then score seven of the next nine points to get the lead to five but, the Cavs would be able to get any closer as Flowers would score 11 fourth quarter points as she finished the second half 7-for-7 from the floor.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Davisson finished with 12 points while Mikayla Kuehne chipped in 10 points to form a trio of Railsplitters in double figure scoring. Nia Vanzant and King netted 12 each in the loss. UVA Wise did not turn it over in the first quarter but, finished with 14 turnovers over the final three periods. LMU made 10 triples and was able to overcome 19 turnovers.
