WISE – Men's tennis was swept at home by Lincoln Memorial University Tuesday, 7-0, at the Jim and Betty Humphreys Tennis Complex.
LMU (5-7, 4-4 SAC) won the doubles point after sweeping the Cavs (1-9, 0-7 SAC). The Railsplitters Iker Moure and Sebastian Colla defeated sophomore Jake Ferner and junior Dominic Hoffman, 6-2, at No. 1. Senior Coleton Burke and junior Luke Jarnagin were topped at No. 2, 6-1, by LMU's Thom Hermans and Jake Tuchmann while sophomores Connor Giza and John Robert Kilgore were defeated by the same score, 6-1, at No. 3.
In singles play, Ferner was outlasted by Moure, 6-3, 6-2 at No.1 while Hoffman suffered a 6-0, 6-3 setback at the No. 2 spot. Burke and Giza were swept, 6-0, 6-0, by their opponents at the No. 3 and No. 5 singles position. Jarnagin dropped his match at No. 4, 6-1, 6-0, while Kilgore fell in a single set, 8-2, to LMU's Turner.
Head coach Roger Whited's team will return to the courts for a doubleheader Saturday. The Cavs will face Coker in SAC action at 10 a.m. followed by a 2 p.m. first serve against nonconference opponent Mary Baldwin University.
