Cavs Welcome Bulldogs for Senior Day

Storylines – vs wingate

Veteran coach Ann Hancock seems to have righted the ship at the right time for Wingate. The Bulldogs began the year just 1-4, but are 8-4 in their last 12 contests. Forward Haleigh Hatfield is a big reason why. The High Point University transfer is averaging a double-double at 12.3 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. The graduate student has shown off her offensive rebounding skills during Wingate's current four-game winning streak. Hatfield has snatched at least three offensive rebounds in each game, including eight offensive rebounds in an 87-65 thrashing of Mars Hill. Hatfield's offensive rebounding prowess has propelled the Bulldogs to the best rebounding team in the South Atlantic Conference. Hancock's squad wins the battle of the battle of the boards by more than eight rebounds a night. In the first meeting between the two schools, Wingate grabbed 30 offensive rebounds while taking the rebounding battle 52-to-39. That day, Bryanna Troutman scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds; it was one of five double-double performances for the sophomore this season.

About UVA Wise

Prior to tip-off Saturday, UVA Wise will honor the careers of seniors Hanna Oliver and Ada Stanley as part of Senior Day Ceremonies. The duo has combined for 1,535 points and 562 made field goals during their four-year playing careers and each woman is set to graduate from the college this spring.  Jamie Cluesman's crew found out earlier this week that it is one of 10 teams under consideration for a NCAA Tournament berth when the Southeast Region Rankings were released putting extra emphasis on the team's upcoming games. Last time out, sophomore Nia Vanzant put together a complete game in three quarters. The guard made 10-of-13 field goals en route to 24 points while adding seven rebounds. Two other Cavaliers finished in double figure scoring in the contest, Kalee Johnson went 6-of-7 from the floor in her return to action to net 13 points while Ada Stanley chipped in 12 points and five rebounds. Assists continue to be the story for the Cavaliers. Caitlyn Ross leads the league and ranks fourth nationally in assists per game at 6.7 while the team is second nationally in assists at 19.3 per game. The ball sharing has led UVA Wise to the league's highest scoring offense at 81.7 points per game, the number also ranks ninth nationally. Kalee Johnson and Ross are among the best free throw shooters in the conference. Johnson ranks third in the league at 81 percent while Ross is fourth at 80 percent. As a team, the Cavs make a league-leading 77.2 percent of its free throw attempts.
