Cavalier Men Host Wingate Saturday

Storylines – vs WINGATE UNIVERSITY
Head coach Brian Good and the Bulldogs of Wingate visit Wise Saturday afternoon for the second meeting of the season between the two teams. Wingate holds a 10-6 overall and South Atlantic Conference mark and are currently riding a three-game win streak.  The Bulldogs most recently earned back-to-back wins against Anderson, defeating the Trojans on the road Wednesday, 76-69, and inside Cuddy Arena Thursday evening in a one-point overtime victory, 87-86. Jarren Cottingham and Francis Sio lead the Bulldogs in scoring this season with each averaging 17.4 ppg as the duo are tied for sixth among league leaders in the category. As a team, Wingate is one of the top scoring teams in the SAC posting 81.6 ppg and averaging 28 made field goals (third in the SAC) per contest. Coach Good's team leads the conference averaging 16.3 made free throws per game. From the floor this season, Wingate is shooting 46.4 percent (fourth in the SAC) while shooting 36.9 percent (fourth in the SAC) from behind the arc. The Bulldogs will close out their regular season schedule at home versus Catawba College Wednesday night.

UVA Wise claimed a one-point road victory over Lenoir-Rhyne University Wednesday night, 71-70, with a shot in the paint by Cameron Whiteside falling with less than three seconds to play to put the Cavs in front as the team held on for the win. Whiteside finished with a game-high 25 points on 60 percent shooting from the field while going a perfect 7-for-7 at the line. The junior guard added two steals and three assists in the win while sophomore Drew Greene tallied a team-high eight assists in the game. Junior Kaeleb Carter finished with a team-high six boards and notched 17 points on the night with the junior forward reaching double-figures in four of his last five contests. Head coach Blake Mellinger's crew remain one of the better scoring teams with their 78.5 points per game (fourth in the SAC) while shooting 45 percent from the field. UVA Wise continues to capitalize at the foul line as the Cavs are averaging 16.3 made free throws per game (second in the SAC) and shooting 77.4 percent at the stripe. The Cavalier men will conclude regular season play on the road Monday night in a 8 p.m. tip-off at Mars Hill.
