UVA WISE OPENS SAC PLAY AT LIMESTONE

Storylines – vs LIMESTONE

Veteran Head Coach Corey Fox has Limestone off to a 2-0 start for the second time in three seasons after the Saints defeated King and Converse last weekend. Picked eighth in the Preseason SAC Coaches' Poll, Limestone has a pair of Preseason All-SAC picks in Quin Byrd and Reagan McCray. The duo proved why in the season's first two games. Byrd scored 17 points in the season opener while McCray netted the game-winning hoop in the 61-60 win over King. A day later, Byrd scored 19 points and dished out 11 assists with McCray scoring ten points in a 96-56 trouncing of Converse. The 3-point line has been prominent in Limestone's offense thus far. Through two games, the team has attempted 46 3-pointers. In the win over Converse, Limestone connected on ten triples. A traditional power, the Saints have made eight of the last ten NCAA Tournaments. The stretch includes seven consecutive trips from 2012-to-2018, a 30-game winning streak and a Final Four appearance in 2015.

 About uva wise

Turnovers plagued UVA Wise in a pair of season opening losses last week. The Cavaliers committed 23 turnovers in a 65-50 loss to Clayton State before turning it over 21 times in a 96-74 loss to Flagler. A bright spot for UVA Wise in the early going has been the play of junior Nia Vanzant. The 5-foot-7 guard pumped in a team-high 26 points on 9-of-10 shooting against Flagler after recording a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds against Clayton State. Some newcomers have made early season contributions. Guard Jaymi Golden has made a team-high three 3-pointers through two games with freshman Katlin Burger coming off the bench to score eight points against Flagler. Free throw shooting has been a bright spot as well. As a team, the Cavs are shooting 80 percent from the charity stripe. That should bode well in Wednesday's contest with the Saints. In the first two games of the season, Limestone opponents attempted an average of 26 free throws per game. A win would avoid an 0-3 start for UVA Wise. The Cavs have not began a season 0-3 since the 2012-13 campaign when the club began the year with three consecutive losses.
