UVA Wise Drops Road Test at Lynn

BOCA RATON, Fla. – UVA Wise dropped a nonconference matchup to Lynn University Wednesday night, 22-9, on the road.

Lynn (4-3) opened up the contest scoring a goal less than 30 seconds into the first half. The Fighting Knights scored two more times before the Cavaliers (2-5) got on the board at the 24:41 mark as sophomore Caroline Earnshaw found the back of the net.

Trailing by as many as five, UVA Wise scored three unanswered goals by sophomore Ellie Earnshaw and Caroline Earnshaw to put UVA Wise down 8-6 with 6:17 left in the frame. Lynn responded with three-straight goals to end the half as the Fighting Knights took an 11-6 lead into the break.

UVA Wise scored two goals across the first 10 minutes of the second frame as Lynn pushed its advantage to 14-8 with just under 19 minutes to play. An 8-1 run for the Fighting Knights closed out the contest as Lynn earned the win 22-9.

Caroline and Ellie Earnshaw each tallied a hat trick in the loss with three goals apiece. Senior Ashley Wells (2) and junior Samantha Hill (1) rounded out the scoring for the Cavs. Senior Jesse French posted a team-high five assists.

French and freshman Sydney Trask each picked up a team-high three ground balls while Caroline Earnshaw registered a team-high four draw controls.

Lynn outshot UVA Wise 30-25 while the Cavs converted 14-of-15 clears. The Fighting Knights recorded 19 ground balls to 23 for the Cavaliers while Lynn gained 22 draw controls to 11 for UVA Wise.

Head coach Meghan Dennehy's team will return to South Atlantic Conference action next Wednesday, March 11 for a 3 p.m. draw at Mars Hill University.
