Cavaliers Fall Short at Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Women's lacrosse dropped a 15-12 decision on the road at Lee University Friday evening. Sophomore Caroline Earnshaw led the Cavaliers with four goals to total 11 goals so far this season.

The Cavs (2-1) got on the board quickly with an early goal by freshman Sydney Trask just 18 seconds into the contest, but Lee (3-2) responded with back-to-back goals to gain a 2-1 advantage with 28:29 on the clock.

UVA Wise climbed from behind to pull in front midway through the half, but four straight goals for Lee put the Flames ahead 6-4 with 11:28 to play.

A free position goal by Caroline Earnshaw started a 4-0 run for the Cavs as UVA Wise took a 7-6 lead with under five minutes to play in the opening half. A late Lee goal knotted the contest at 7-7 heading into halftime.

Both teams scored another goal less than a minute into the second half, tying the game three more times with the scoreboard reading 12-12 with 11:08 to play. Lee managed to take the lead at the 9:26 mark before taking a 15-12 advantage with less than two minutes to play as the Flames held on for the victory.

Sophomore Katie Allen totaled three goals while freshman Sydney Trask added two. Seniors Jesse French and Ashley Wells and sophomore Ellie Earnshaw each found the back of the net once for the Cavs.

French posted a team-high five assists while junior Samantha Hill and Wells each notched an assist in the loss. French's six points ties the program's individual career record for points as she currently has 195 total points to date.

Caroline Earnshaw finished with a team-high eight draw controls while senior Abby Willis posted a team-high three caused turnovers.

Senior Elsa Girardo posted four ground balls and notched five saves while freshman goalkeeper Jordan Edwards suffered the loss in the net.

The Cavs outshot the Flames 26-22. Lee registered 15 draw controls to 14 for UVA Wise while the Cavs picked up 10 ground balls to 17 for the Flames.

Head coach Meghan Dennehy's squad will return to action Sunday for a noon draw at Young Harris College.
