Head coach Chuck Benson's team visits Wise Wednesday night with a 9-17 overall record, 6-14 mark in South Atlantic Conference play. Carson-Newman is looking to snap a three-game losing streak after the team most recently fell to Queens this past Saturday, 83-71, on the road. The Eagles' 80.1 points per game place them sixth in the conference in the category. Senior Tripp Davis and junior EJ Bush lead Carson-Newman in scoring averaging 14.8 ppg and 12.8 ppg, respectively. Coach Benson's team ranks first in the SAC in rebounding, posting 41.2 per game. Bush leads his team in the rebounding category, grabbing 7.8 boards per game (fourth in the SAC) while Davis follows recording 4.8 rebounds per contest. The Eagles claim the sixth-best field goal percentage in the league at 45.4 percent while shooting 35.7 percent from three-point range, and 66.2 percent from the free throw line. Carson-Newman ranks fourth in team standings in assists, registering 14.2 per game while senior Reece Anderson's 3.5 assists per contest place him atop the category for the Eagles. Eric Okenchi each scored in double-figures as Whiteside netted a game-high 23 points while Parris had 17 points and Okenchi added 11 points in the loss. Head coach Blake Mellinger's team is averaging 76.4 points per game this season while opponents are posting 80.9 points per game. The Cavs are shooting 43.5 percent from the floor and 74.3 percent from the charity stripe (fifth in the SAC) while notching 14.9 assists per game (third in the SAC). Whiteside continues his impressive sophomore campaign, averaging a league-best 20.8 points per game while shooting 50.7 percent from the field and averaging 7.3 field goals per game (third in the SAC). The 6-foot-4 guard also leads the Cavs in rebounding with 7.3 per game (fifth in the SAC) followed by Okenchi who is recording 5.8 per game. Chance Sheffey continues to lead UVA Wise in assists, dishing out 4.9 per game as Sheffey (10.1 ppg) and Parris (13.4 ppg) are the only other two Cavaliers averaging double-figures for UVA Wise. The Cavs return to action for their regular season finale Saturday on the road at Coker. Tip-off between the Cobras and Cavs is slated for 4 p.m.
