WINGATE, N.C. - - Junior Mackeznie King came off the bench to make a career-high six 3-pointers en route to a career-best 22 points as UVA Wise went on the road to knock off Wingate 92-82 in South Atlantic Conference women's basketball action at Cuddy Arena Wednesday.

King's career night was part of a total team win for UVA Wise (2-1, 2-1 SAC). The Cavaliers received 43 points off the bench as redshirt junior Meg Crawford scored a season-high 17 points while grabbing a season-best 11 rebounds and blocking four shots to tally the first double-double of her UVA Wise career.

In total, five players reached double figure scoring for Jamie Cluesman's team who led wire-to-wire for the second consecutive game.

Kalee Johnson got things going early for the visitors as the redshirt senior scored nine of her 13 points in the first quarter to put Wingate (0-2, 0-2 SAC) in a 15-6 hole four minutes into the game.

The Bulldogs would spend the rest of the evening play from behind. The Cavs shot a blistering 68.2 percent from the floor in the first half and entered intermission leading 41-33.

Wingate would get to within three points on two separate occasions in the third period but, each time UVA Wise would have an answer. When the Bulldogs' Hannah Clark scored to make it a 48-45 contest with 6:04 to play in the third quarter, the Cavs responded with a 5-0 run that included a 3-pointer by King and a pair of foul shots by Caitlyn Ross. The two free throws for Ross were part of an evening that saw her score 14 points, grab nine boards, dish out six assists and record two steals.

It would be as close as the hosts would get for the remainder of the night. UVA Wise closed the third period on a 17-4 run to put the game out of reach. Nia Vanzant would score nine of her 18 points in the spurt as she added six rebounds, a career-high seven assists, two steals and a block to her point total.

The lead ballooned to 25 points with 3:44 to play in the game when Vanzant found Crawford inside for a deuce before Wingate on an 18-3 run.

The Cavs finished the game shooting 52.7 percent from the floor and 42.9 percent from beyond the arc. The strong shooting by UVA Wise allowed the team to overcome a 52-39 deficit on the backboards. Wingate grabbed 30 offensive rebounds in the game but shot just 32.1 percent from the floor.

Bryanna Troutman made her season debut for the Bulldogs and proved to be a problem despite the loss. The forward scored a team-high 19 points and led all players with 13 rebounds.

Aliyah Whiteside (14), Jaia Wilson (11), Clark (11) and Peyton Davis (10) also finished in double figure scoring for the Bulldogs who were playing their first game in two weeks due to COVID-19.
