Cavalier Women Visit LMU Wednesday

Storylines – vs Lincoln Memorial University
Interim Head Coach Eric Brewton Jr. has Lincoln Memorial in the thick of the South Atlantic Conference standings with a 3-3 record despite entering Wednesday's game on a three-game losing streak. The Railsplitters last won on Dec. 7 when the team claimed a 58-52 win over Queens. Since then, LMU has suffered three straight double digit defeats. The team's biggest hurdle this season has been rebounding as the Railsplitters rank 11th in the league and 226 nationally in rebounds per contest at 35.9. The team's strength has been its ability to hold onto the basketball. Brewton's club is second in the league in fewest turnovers averaging 17.2 per game. The Railsplitters have also been proficient at keeping teams off the foul line. Entering Wednesday, teams have attempted just 11.4 foul shots per contest. Individually, freshman guard Lauren Flowers is the only player to average double figure scoring as she checks in at 12.7 points per game. Teammate Shermeria Quarles is netting 8.6 points per game and a team-best 7.1 rebounds a contest.
About UVA Wise
Senior Cynita Webb became the 21st player in school history to join the 1,000 point club in program history Saturday when UVA Wise upended Queens University of Charlotte 78-59. While the forward made history it was the play of freshman guard Nia Vanzant that powered the Cavaliers to the victory over the Royals. Vanzant tied a season-high by netting 23 points on 10-of-17 shooting while adding five rebounds in 31 minutes of action. Saturday's game against the Railsplitters is pivotal to the SAC race as both teams enter the game with identical 3-3 league marks.  The Cavs have been the best team in the league shooting the basketball as Jamie Cluesman's team enters the game shooting 47.9 percent from the floor. The number is boosted by Webb and freshman point guard Caitlyn Ross. Webb leads the league with a 61.2 percent field goal percentage while Ross ranks third coming in shooting at a 52.6 percent clip. Ross has been masterful at the controls of the UVA Wise offense as she leads the league and checks in eighth nationally in assists per game at 6.1. A win over the Railsplitters would give the Cavs their first ever SAC road win and stop a three-game road losing streak for Cluseman's squad. UVA Wise has just one win in true road games this season and has been outscored on average by 9.3 points per game during the current road losing streak. LMU has won four of the last five meetings between the two schools and leads the all-time series 9-5. UVA Wise last won in Harrogate on Jan. 15, 1978 when then Clinch Valley College claimed a 75-57 win.
