No. 13 Anderson Downs UVA Wise

ANDERSON, S.C. - - No. 13 Anderson has eight women listed at 5-foot-10 or taller and that height paid dividends Saturday as the Trojans blocked 11 shots and enjoyed a 60-to-43 rebounding advantage in a 66-55 South Atlantic Conference win at the Abney Athletic Center.

Anderson (15-3, 10-2 SAC) broke open a one point game with an 11-1 scoring spurt mid-way through the second quarter to take a double digit lead and never look back.

UVA Wise (8-10, 4-8 SAC) would be unable to get the game back closer than eight points at any point over the remainder of the contest.

Anderson's Allexy Mollenahuer was a big reason for the fast start. The senior who was held without a field goal in the first meeting of the season between the two schools made eight first half field goals as part of a 21-point half. The forward finished the contest with a game-high 27 points and 12 rebounds.

The Cavaliers struggled with the Trojans defense throughout the game as the visitors made just 20-of-71 field goal attempts, including a 2-for-12 showing in the third period.

Freshman Nia Vanzant was the lone UVA Wise player to finish in double figures as she netted 18 points while adding eight rebounds and two steals. Kalee Johnson and Caitlyn Ross each tossed in eight points while Ross added seven rebounds, four assists and three steals in defeat.

Junior Catrina Wood came off the bench to make a career-high three field goals while playing a career-high 23 minutes in the game. Ross, Vanzant and Leah Kestner all logged 40 minutes in the game, Kestner finished with seven points and seven rebounds.

Next up, the Cavs will visit Mars Hill Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. tip
