Men's Tennis Falls on the Road to the Yellow Jackets

INSTITUTE, W. Va. - - Cavalier men's tennis dropped its road match Saturday afternoon to West Virginia State, 5-2. Juniors John Hamilton and Daniel Laughlin earned wins at the No. 4 and No. 6 singles positions for UVa-Wise.

The Cavs (0-14, 0-5 MEC) failed to secure the doubles point as West Virginia State (1-8, 1-2 MEC) gained the point following wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles positions. Laughlin and senior Jakub Blach won their match at the number three spot, 6-4, over the Yellow Jackets' Ethan Cross and Adam Walters.

At singles play, sophomore Coleton Burke fell 6-1, 6-0 at the number one spot as the Yellow Jackets' Noah Fulks defeated freshman Luke Jarnagin in a tiebreaker, 6-1, 7-6, 7-1, at the No. 2 spot. Freshman Dominic Hoffman also fell in a tiebreaker at number three, 7-6, 6-4, 8-6. Hamilton posted a 6-1, 7-5 victory at the No. 4 position while Blach fell 8-2 at number five and Laughlin won his match 8-2 at the No. 6 spot.

Roger Whited's team will return to action next Saturday with a road match against Shepherd University at 1 p.m.
