Gobbi Joins 150 Point Club as Cavs Push MEC Winning Streak to 11

WISE - - On a day that senior Kristin Gobbi became the second player in UVa-Wise history to reach 150 career points, her Cavaliers won their 11 consecutive game over a Mountain East Conference foe with a 15-10 women's lacrosse victory over Shepherd University Sunday at Smith Stadium.

Gobbi started the day with a flurry as she scored the game's opening goal at the 26:35 mark giving UVa-Wise (5-5, 3-0 MEC) the early lead. The senior would score a trio of goals in the game's first 14 minutes as her last goal tied the score at three each.

Shepherd (5-5, 2-2 MEC) had its first lead of the day at the 22:09 point of the first half when Mallory Davila scored unassisted to give the guests a 3-2 lead. After Gobbi's goal, Davilla scored the second of her game-high four goals on a woman-up opportunity to regain the lead for Shepherd.

It would be the last of the day for the Rams as the Cavs responded by scoring the final five goals of the half to take an 8-4 lead to intermission. UVa-Wise's seventh goal of the game featured Gobbi's 150th career point. The senior assisted on freshman's Caroline Earnshaw's goal with 6:40 showing on the first half clock to join fellow senior Sydney Steinberg as the only players in school history to reach 150 career points.

Shepherd would get no closer than three goals at any point in the second half, at one point the visitors trailed 15-7 with less than three minutes to play.

McKayla Grasham and Ashley Wells tallied five points each in the win while Grasham, Wells and Gobbi each had a hat trick. Grasham tied Davilla for game-high goal honors with four.

A sloppy affair, the two teams combined to commit 53 turnovers. Shepherd was just 18-of-31 in clear chances while turning it over 30 times.

The Cavs enjoyed a healthy advantage in shot attempts; Meghan Dennehy's squad posted 41 shots compared to just 23 for the Rams.

Seven cards were issued in what was a physical contest. The game was a rematch of last season's MEC Tournament Finals that UVa-Wise won in triple overtime.
