Cavalier Men Host Mountain Lions for Senior Day


Storylines – vs. Concord University
Concord University enters into Saturday's matchup against the Cavaliers with a 13-8 Mountain East record, 18-9 overall, and are currently slotted fifth in league standings. Todd May's team comes to Wise on a two-game win streak after picking up victories against Urbana, 105-79, and West Virginia State, 75-71 this past week. Ranked 15th in Division II in scoring offense (87.2 ppg), the Mountain Lions' senior Tommy Bolte leads his team and ranks second in the nation in points per game (29.0) and also leads his team in assists with 4.8 per contest. Concord junior Jair Rodgers sits atop Mountain East and DII rankings in three-point field goals per game (4.11) and is the second leading scorer for the Mountain Lions and fifth in the conference with his 21 ppg. Junior Simun Kovac serves as the top rebounder for the team with his 9.4 boards per game placing him third amongst league leaders in the category. As a team, Concord is averaging 87.2 points per game and shooting 46.2 percent from the field, 37.6 percent from behind the arc, and 80.6 from the charity stripe. The Mountain Lions are posting just under 38 rebounds per game at a +3.3 margin over opponents and are turning the ball over less than 11 times per contest. Concord wraps up its regular season on the road at Wise before entering into conference tournament play next week.

The Cavalier men had a two-game win streak off the road snapped Wednesday night with a second-half surge by Charleston giving the Golden Eagles an 85-74 win over UVa-Wise inside the Prior Center. In the loss, senior Rahji Langford posted a career-high 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field. Freshmen Kaeleb Carter and Cameron Whiteside each added 13 points while junior Eric Okenchi also scored in double figures with 10 points. Heading into the final game of regular season play, Blake Mellinger's team is averaging 82.8 ppg while shooting 44.6 percent from the floor, 37.3 percent from three-point range, and 67.7 percent from the foul line. Redshirt freshman Briggs Parris continues to lead his team in scoring with 16.3 ppg while his 3.7 three-point field goals per game rank second in the league and fifth in Division II individual statistics. Parris' 100 three-pointers to date place him fifth in the nation as the 6-foot-4 guard is one of five DII men's players to have hit the 100-mark this season. With the results of Thursday's games, UVa-Wise currently sits tied for the 10th spot with Glenville State as the Cavs hope to return to the conference tournament next week. The Cavs will also recognize Langford for Senior Day in the team's final game inside the Prior Center this season.
