UVA Wise Looks to Extend Winning Streak Against No. 17 Anderson Saturday

Complete Game Notes

Storylines – vs Anderson

No. 17 Anderson University was picked to win the South Atlantic Conference in the Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Trojans are led by reigning Southeast Region Player of the Year and All-America honoree Alexy Mollenhauer. The 6-foot guard has the ability to play inside and outside as she leads the league with 20.8 points per game while ranking third in rebounding at 12.3 per contest. The senior's 1,465 points are the sixth most of any active NCAA Division II player. This season, the native Azerbaijan is making 55.2 percent of her 3-point attempts to lead the conference and rank 16th nationally in the category. As a team, Anderson has won 24 consecutive league games dating back to the 2017-18 season. Coach Jonathon Barbaree guided the Trojans to 28 consecutive wins a year ago and a 30-3 record en route to SAC and Region Coach of the Year honors.  An area to watch in Saturday's game against UVA Wise will be the battle of the boards. Both teams have owned the glass in the early going with Anderson posting a +20.0 rebounding margin per game and UVA Wise holding a +7.6 margin per contest. A win by the Trojans would give the program its 11th straight SAC road win while allowing the school to start 2-0 in league play for the second consecutive season.

Freshman Caitlyn Ross continues to turn heads with her play, the point guard enters Saturday's game with Anderson as the SAC leader in assists per game at 7.6. The number is the most of any NCAA Division II freshman as she has dished out at least five assists in every game she has played thus far. Webb leads the league in field goal percentage at .667 while ranking ninth nationally in the category. To date, eight players have scored at least eight points in a game while the team shooting percentage of .511 ranks sixth in NCAA Division II. The fast start on offense for several individuals has led the team to a robust scoring pace. Jamie Cluesman's team is the highest scoring team in the SAC at 85.2 points per game while ranking 14th nationally in the category.  A win over Anderson would give the Cavs their first five-game winning streak since winning six straight during the 2016-17 season.
