UVa-Wise Tennis Faces Montreat College on the Road

MONTREAT, N.C. - - Men's tennis (2-5) fell in a 6-2 decision against Montreat College on Sunday afternoon. Women's tennis earned a 6-3 victory over Montreat College on the road.

Andrii Rutnytskyi and Ethan Herron earned men's tennis only doubles win of the day at the number one spot, 9-8. Viktor Tunnikov and Chris Armistead fell in a close match at No. 2 doubles, 9-7, while Coleton Burke and John Hamilton were swept at the number three position, 8-0.

Rutnytskyi was the lone victor for men's tennis at the number one singles position, defeating his opponent 6-3, 6-1. Tunnikov managed to win two games in each set at the No. 2 spot, but fell 6-2, 6-2. At number three, Armistead was defeated in a tiebreaker set, 6-3, 7-6(7-5) while Herron fell 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 4 singles spot. Burke was defeated 6-1, 6-2 at the number five spot while Hamilton was unable to finish his match due to darkness.

The women's team earned two wins at doubles as Daria Tyshchenko and Serena Burgess defeated their opponents 8-5 at the number one spot while Aya Melhem and Gabrielle Beville won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. Montana Hill and Ashley Cullen were defeated 8-2 at the number three spot.

Tyshchenko won at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-2 while Melhem allowed just one game by her opponent as she earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2. At the number three spot, Hill defeated her opponent, 6-3, 6-1 while Burgess walked away with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the number four position. Beville fell in a close match, 8-5, at number five singles as Cullen was swept, 8-0, at the No. 6 singles spot.

Men's tennis will face King University on Mar. 11 at 1 p.m. before both teams face Lees-McRae on Mar. 14 at home.
