Cavalier Women Wrap Up 2018 in Home Contest with King Saturday

Storylines – vs King university

Like UVa-Wise, King has yet to win back-to-back games this season. Most recently the Tornado dropped a 74-70 overtime decision at home to Belmont Abbey on Dec. 19. The team is led by junior post player Kori West who is averaging 15 points and 11.6 rebounds a contest. The 6-foot-4 transfer from East Carolina University is shooting 52.8 percent from the field while having recorded six double-doubles in the early going. Her 11.6 rebounds a contest ranks 10th among all NCAA Division II players. In her team's win over UVa-Wise on Nov. 15, West posted a game-high 20 points while finishing a rebound shy of a double-double. Three other players are also averaging double figures, Kristen Couples (12.7 ppg), Trinity Lee (11.2 ppg) and Ali Golden (11.1 ppg). Combined, the quartet averages 50 points per game which comprises 71.4 percent of King's scoring offense. Couples has provided most of her damage from the perimeter where the senior is making 44.1 percent of her attempts to rank 34th nationally in the category.

About uva-wise

With a win Saturday, UVa-Wise will go over .500 for the first time since the conclusion of the 2016-17 season. The Cavaliers are coming off an 87-51 win at Bluefield State where freshman Mackenzie King tied her career-high with 21 points. Making the first start of her collegiate career, King notched a season-best five steals as she finished 7-of-9 from the floor while making 5-of-7 attempts from beyond the 3-point line. The shooting effort allowed King to raise her 3-point field goal percentage to a team-high 41.2 percent on the season. Junior Cynita Webb continues to average a double-double for coach Jamie Cluesman. The 5-foot-11 Webb has scored in double figures in all but two games this season and is posting 18.5 points and 13 rebounds per game over her last two contests. Webb's work on the offensive boards is among the best in the nation as her five offensive rebounds per game ranks sixth nationally. Sophomore Ada Stanley has been playing well of late, the 5-foot-11 forward is 12-for-19 from the field over the last three games while averaging eight points and 5.7 rebounds per game over the stretch. Boosted by Webb's board work, the Cavs are 12th nationally in offensive rebounding averaging 16.9 per contest. The extra opportunities have led to 13.2 second chance points per game, including 15 against King in the first meeting.
