Cavalier Women Tangle with 6-1 Golden Eagles Saturday

Storylines – vs Charleston

Three games into the Mountain East Conference season, Charleston finds itself alone at the top of the league standings with a 3-0 mark. First year coach Becky Burke's squad rides a five-game winning streak into Saturday's game and is outscoring conference foes by an average of 15.7 points per game. NCAA Division I transfer Raziyah Farrington has been a force on the offensive end. The Western Carolina transfer leads the team and ranks fifth in the league in scoring at 19.4 points per game. Farrington is joined by fellow transfer Gracie Roberts. Roberts, a transfer from Detroit Mercy is averaging 9.1 points per game while adding 3.7 assists per game. Charleston has been superb on the defensive end of the floor. Opponents are shooting just 27 percent from beyond the 3-point line and turning the ball over 19 times a game against the Golden Eagles. Keeping Charleston off the free throw line will be key, through seven games the team is averaging 24 free throw attempts per game while making 75 percent of their attempts.

The forward poured in a season-high 21 points and is averaging 11.7 points per game across three MEC games. After losing the battle of the boards for the first time against Notre Dame College, UVa-Wise bounced back by posting a 54-45 rebounding margin against West Virginia State. Junior Cynita Webb recorded her fourth double-double of the year with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Last season, Webb averaged 11.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in two contests against the Golden Eagles. The Cavs also received a boost from the return of Kalee Johnson. The forward played nine minutes in her season debut posting six points on 2-of-4 shooting.
