Cold Shooting Cavs Falter at King

BRISTOL, Tenn. - - Kori West scored a game-high 20 points to lead King University to a 78-62 non-conference victory over UVa-Wise Thursday night. The Tornado shot 61.1 percent in the fourth quarter to break open an eight point game as the team claimed its third consecutive win in the series.

King (2-1) used a 7-0 scoring spurt in the opening minutes of the third quarter to increase its lead from two points to nine points. During the stretch, UVa-Wise (1-2) failed to make a field goal attempt while surrendering a pair of offensive rebounds which led to four points for the hosts.

The Cavs failed to get any closer than six points as the guests made just 1-of-8 field goal attempts from beyond the 3-point line in the second half.

UVa-Wise would get within six with 2:39 to play as Hanna Oliver scored four of her team's five points on a 5-0 scoring run to cut the deficit to 64-58.

It would be as close as Jamie Cluesman's team would get as King closed the game on a 14-4 run to claim the out of conference win.

King held a 30-28 halftime lead despite making just 3-of-18 field goal attempts in the second quarter. UVa-Wise also struggled from the field in the quarter as the team made just 4-of-16 attempts.

West was joined in double figure scoring by Trinty Lee who netted 15 points and Ali Golden who added 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting. King assisted on 18-of-30 made field goals, led by Golden's game-high six.

UVa-Wise struggled from the field making just 30.8 percent of its field goal attempts. Cynita Webb scored a team-high 16 points while adding eight rebounds, Oliver was the only other Cav in double figure scoring as she notched 14 points.

Next up, the Cavs will open up Mountain East Conference play Saturday when Urbana University visits the Prior Center for a 2 p.m. tip.
