Cavalier Women Aim For Back-to-Back Wins Wednesday

Storylines – vs West virginia state

In a three-way tie for fourth place in the conference standings, West Virginia State enters Wednesday's game looking for a season-series sweep of UVa-Wise and to keep its spot in the top third of the league. Led by senior Aurreshae Hines' 16.6 points per game, the Yellow Jackets are among the league leaders in 3-pointers attempted. West Virginia State has attempted 515 shots from beyond the arc this season to rank second in the league. Jasmine Davis' 52 made 3-pointers lead the conference; the guard's long range shooting ability was also key in the Yellow Jackets' 74-51 win over the Cavaliers earlier this season. In that game, Davis made a trio of 3-pointers. Turnovers were also a key factor in the first meeting as West Virginia State forced 25 turnovers while committing just 10 as Charles Marshall's team limited UVa-Wise to 19 second half points.

About UVa-Wise

UVa-Wise used career-high scoring days from Cynita Webb and Hanna Oliver to end its six-game losing streak with a 92-81 win over Wheeling Jesuit University in overtime. Oliver made five 3-pointers on eight attempts as she scored 21 points off the bench. Webb added 11 rebounds as she recorded her sixth double-double of the season. Freshman Bianca Lockamy was also huge in the win as she dished out a season-high nine assists while adding 13 points on six-of-9 shooting. The win marked the first for the program over Wheeling Jesuit and moved Elise Clyburn's team to within one game of tenth place and the final spot in the Mountain East Conference Tournament.  Cutting down on turnovers played a big role in Saturday's win. UVa-Wise was below its season average despite the game going to overtime and finished the game with a positive assist-to-turnover ratio. The Cavaliers have a chance to get on a roll; each of the team's three wins have come inside the Prior Center. UVa-Wise is currently in the midst of playing four consecutive home games and five out of six in Wise.
