UVa-Wise to Host Yellow Jackets Wednesday Night


Storylines – vs. West Virginia State
Head Coach Bryan Poore's Yellow Jackets will visit the David J. Prior Convocation Center on Wednesday in an attempt to even the score against the Cavaliers. West Virginia State is coming off of a two-game win streak, edging Glenville State, 89-83, and downing the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan, 86-68. Down 55-37 at the half, the Yellow Jackets used a second half surge to complete the comeback victory against the Pioneers on the road. Against Glenville, Robert Fomby led West Virginia State with 24 points, making 16-of-19 shots from the free throw line, and 11 rebounds. Pat Johnson-Agwu led the charge against the Bobcats, posting 19 points and eight rebounds in the win. The Yellow Jackets (8-6, 6-4 MEC) continue to improve this season behind leading scorer Johnson-Agwu who is putting up 17.5 points per game on 101-for-175 (57.7 percent) shooting this season. Johnson-Agwu also leads the team in rebounding, averaging 7.4 per game. Fomby is the Yellow Jackets' assists leader, recording 2.8 per contest. West Virginia State is averaging 87.4 ppg with opponents posting 88.6 points per contest. The Yellow Jackets are shooting 44.4 percent from the field and hitting 32.3 percent from beyond the arc. As a team, West Virginia State is averaging 39.5 rebounds per game and 13.9 assists while committing 14.5 turnovers per contest. Following Wednesday night's contest, the Yellow Jackets will head back home to host the University of Charleston on Saturday afternoon inside the Walker Convocation Center.

The Cavalier men will look to halt a four-game losing streak as they take on West Virginia State on Wednesday night. In a battle against No. 19 Wheeling Jesuit, the Cavs were unable to pick up a win against the Cardinals, falling 86-72, on Saturday afternoon. UVa-Wise will look to get its first home conference win of the season against the Yellow Jackets after defeating West Virginia State on the road courtesy of a buzzer-beating floater by sophomore forward Tajh Eason. So far this season, the Cavs are led by redshirt senior Taiwo Badmus in both scoring and rebounding with the forward collecting 20.5 ppg and shooting 45.9 percent from the floor, alongside 9.1 rpg. Sophomore point guard Michal Seals continues to lead the Cavaliers and the the Mountain East Conference in assists, recording 6.7 per contest. Following Wednesday's game, UVa-Wise will complete its four-game home stand against Concord University on Saturday afternoon inside the David J. Prior Convocation Center.
