Saturday’s Regular Season Finale to Determine Postseason Fate for Men’s Basketball

WISE, Va. – The Cavalier men's basketball team welcomes Concord University to the David J. Prior Convocation Center for their regular season finale Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Storylines – vs. Concord University
UVa-Wise takes on the Mountain Lions in a pivotal Mountain East Conference matchup that will determine the Cavs' postseason fate.

With a win, UVa-Wise will clinch a spot in next week's MEC Tournament, however, a loss will eliminate the Cavs from any postseason competition. Concord visits the Prior Center also seeking a berth in the MEC Tournament and needs a victory to guarantee a spot in next week's league tournament, however, can still make postseason play with a loss and an Urbana University loss at Notre Dame College.

UVa-Wise can clinch the No. 9 seed in the MEC Tournament with a win and an Urbana loss, or the No. 10 seed with a win and an Urbana win over Notre Dame College. With a 6-15 league record and an 8-19 overall mark, the Cavs are currently tied for 10th in the MEC regular season standings with Urbana but the Blue Knights own the tiebreaker after sweeping UVa-Wise this season. The Mountain Lions are in ninth place in the MEC regular season standings with a 7-14 conference mark and an 11-16 overall record.

In the two teams' first meeting this season back on Jan. 19, the Cavs routed Concord 98-70 in Athens, West Virginia. The 28-point win was UVa-Wise's largest margin of victory this season and the Cavs' first road victory of the year. Redshirt junior forward Taiwo Badmus (London, England) scored a career-high 42 points in the win, the third-most in a single game in the MEC this season.

Since the Mountain Lions' loss to UVa-Wise, Concord has posted a 6-4 record and has won six of its last seven games, including a 107-104 upset of then second-ranked West Liberty University. The Mountain Lions have won three consecutive contests as sophomore guard Tommy Bolte has scored a career high in each of the last three games. The reigning MEC Player of the Week has scored 20 points or more in four of Concord's last five games and is averaging 23.4 points per game over the last five contests. The Mountain Lions have made 10 or more 3-pointers in each game during their current win streak.
